About the Position
The mission of the Defence Personnel Services Office (DPSO) is to provide sustained administrative support to Australian Defence Organisation (ADO) members and their families throughout their posting to the US and Canada in support of Australia’s security interests and fostering defence partnerships. The Defence Conditions of Service (CoS) Officer position is responsible for providing specialist personnel support in accordance with current policy and legislation for all members of the ADO and their recognised dependants on long term postings to the USA and Canada.
The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
• Provide sound advice and recommendations on conditions of service support including
healthcare
• Research and analyse current legislation and policy on a wide range of operational tasks
• Coordinate workflow and prioritise complex administrative tasks pertaining to ADO
personnel and their dependants making independent decisions and determinations in
accordance with departmental policy
• Coordinate, develop and present a range of formal and informal medical and dental
briefings, both written and verbal including preparation and dissemination of monthly
electronic updates
• Perform high-level financial administration for Defence Staff for health care accounts
processing operations in accordance with the departmental guidelines and legislative
requirements
• Maintain up-to-date records, monitor and report on expenditure including preparing high
level financial reports for review by Defence management
• Monitor and track current and emerging resources and healthcare services, both
Government and commercial, available for Defence personnel and their families posted to
the USA and Canada
• Coordinate and maintain Defence healthcare records in accordance with Australian
Defence Staff (Washington) regulations and departmental policies
Qualifications/Experience.
Essential
• Demonstrated ability to achieve timely results through working independently or as part of a small team with limited supervision and manage a large and often complex caseload
• Demonstrated ability to utilise Microsoft Office products and web-based tools
• Demonstrated ability to develop productive workplace relations with internal and external
stakeholders
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills, including an ability to work productively
as part of a team and consult with internal and external stakeholders
• Demonstrated ability to perform research and analysis and distil information into effective
formats for dissemination to a diverse and widespread client base
• Demonstrated ability to prioritise, think strategically, apply judgement and innovation to
achieve results
• Demonstrated adherence to privacy, confidentiality and organisational policies
• Experience managing budgets to comply with financial and records management
Desirable
• Ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Security Clearance
• Experience in using a finance management system such as SAP
